Assessment Process
Neuropsychological Assessment occurs over 4 separate Sessions:
Session #1: The Intake (1-1.5 hours)
This initial session is to discuss the nature of your child's difficulty and gather information related to their medical and developmental history, family, and educational achievement. If necessary, you may also be asked to complete a release of information form so I can speak with and collect records from physicians, educators, and therapists who work with your child. This is also when you will complete any unfinished paperwork related to registration, consent to provide service, and payment. Younger children do not need to attend this meeting, though adolescents are encouraged to attend (ages 16 and older).
If applicable, provide copies of previous evaluations, individual education program (IEP), & school accommodation plans
Sessions #2 & #3: Testing Sessions (2-3 hours each)
Over 2 testing sessions, your child will participate in a variety of activities that are designed to estimate their functioning across a range of abilities and skills, including intelligence, memory, attention, and academics. Children often find these activities to be enjoyable, though frequent breaks will be provided during these sessions. Parents are asked to stay and wait in the waiting room for the duration of these appointments. In preparation for testing, your child should have a good nights sleep and eat a full breakfast.
Session #4: The Feedback (1-1.5 hours)
At this final session we will discuss assessment findings, including testing results, diagnostic considerations, and comprehensive recommendations. Recommendations will include any relevant referrals for outside intervention, strategies to use at home, and educational accommodations. A written report will be provided and arrangements to disperse this report to associated care providers will be made at this meeting. Younger children do not need to attend this meeting, though adolescents are encouraged to attend (ages 16 and older).
