What is a Neuropsychological Assessment?

Neuropsychological Assessment
Children can have difficulty within their home, school, or social lives for a variety of reasons. Sometimes these difficulties are not well understood. Neuropsychological assessment can offer insight into the functioning of a child's brain, highlight their particular strengths and weaknesses, and reveal important differences in brain development (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia, autism, etc.). This process can help children better understand themselves, identify interventions/supports that will increase their independence, and identify environments where they can feel confident.

What Does This Process Look Like?
How Can I Talk About This with my Child?
Common Reasons for a Neuropsychological Assessment
  • Difficulty learning and remembering at school
  • Difficulty self-controlling emotions, behaviors, and attention
  • Difficulty communicating
  • Difficulty making and keeping friendships
  • Changes in daily functioning related to a complex medical and/or social history
